For decades, I searched for virtue in painting. I created highly complex works; my goal was always to ensure that the viewer could not decipher the brushstroke.
Abstract art captured my interest from the very beginning. I believe that the ability to imagine what we see is the greatest tool for moving toward the future. Just as in life itself, we find our uniqueness through an individual interpretation shaped by our emotions and experiences.
Experiences define us. Even when we embrace some form of faith, whether political, economic, mystical, or scientific, such individuality tends to develop guided primarily by our expectations. I therefore understand that my most complex works are the product of a complex life, one that I gradually left behind over the years.
I now find myself at a point where minimalism has gradually shaped me into a fuller and more confident way of living. Today, I need very little to be happy. This transformation developed unconsciously until I came to Banyuls-sur-Mer to reflect beyond my familiar comfort zones, and there I found the answer to my questions.
The Mediterranean spoke to me, loud and clear: SIMPLIFY. That voice came from the crystal-clear sea in which I swim every day. The clarity of the seabed is proof that I must surrender myself to minimalism. All of nature tells me the same thing: the time has come to commit deeply to one path and stop intoxicating myself with endless possibilities. I believe this is my path now: to empty myself in order to float.
I want to thank the Mediterranean. It serves as a teacher at this moment in my life. I am certain that it is both the foundation of my new work and the rhythm of my steps. I found something profoundly generous here.
Durante décadas busqué la virtud en la pintura. Realicé obras muy complejas; el objetivo siempre fue que el espectador no descifrara el trazo.
El arte abstracto captó mi interés desde el principio. Creo que la capacidad de imaginar lo que vemos es la mejor herramienta para avanzar hacia el futuro. Al igual que en la vida misma, encontramos nuestra singularidad a través de una interpretación individual impulsada por nuestras emociones y experiencias.
Las experiencias nos definen. Incluso cuando nos acogemos a algún tipo de fe, ya sea política, económica, mística o científica, tal singularidad suele desarrollarse guiada principalmente por nuestras expectativas. Entiendo, por tanto, que mis obras más complejas son fruto de una vida compleja que, con los años, fui dejando atrás.
Ahora me encuentro en un momento donde el minimalismo me ha moldeado gradualmente hacia una vida más plena y segura. Actualmente, necesito muy poco para ser feliz. Esto se fue desarrollando inconscientemente hasta que vine a Banyuls-sur-Mer para reflexionar fuera de mis zonas comunes (de confort) y encontré la respuesta a mis preguntas.
El Mediterráneo me dijo, alto y claro: SIMPLIFICA. Esa voz vino del océano cristalino en el que me baño a diario. La nitidez del fondo marino es la evidencia de que tengo que entregarme al minimalismo. Toda la naturaleza me dice lo mismo: ha llegado la hora de profundizar en una opción y dejar de emborracharme con las opciones. Creo que este es mi camino ahora: vaciar para poder flotar.
Quiero agradecer al Mediterráneo. Ejerce de maestro en este momento de mi vida. Estoy seguro que es el argumento de mi nueva obra y la cadencia de mis pasos. Encontré algo muy bondadoso aquí.
