I spent nine days painting three murals in the Basque Country. I started at Soho, a large surf shop in Santurtzi, where I met Joseba, the owner of the shop, a snowboarder and musician, a wonderful person with whom I shared five nonstop days of painting, conversations, and music. It was a very intense and rewarding experience, and I left with the feeling that I had made a friend.
At Soho I painted two murals, and then I went to Bilbao to paint again at La Docena, owned by my friends Dani and Vanesa. La Docena is a design studio that I first painted in 2013. To my surprise, the mural was still intact, but we took the risk of renewing it with a design from the “Brasil” series. At La Docena I met Nico, their son, a radiant spirit and surely a future talented artist in whatever he chooses to pursue.
They were fantastic days: many interesting conversations, laughter, painting, music, and plans for the future. From all this, a video and an interview Nico did with me will come out. I also met Laura, Simón, Matilda, Efi, Maider, and Janire, beautiful people who offered me hospitality and warmth.
These kinds of murals are not typical in my work. I have to admit that at first I felt a bit unsure stepping outside my comfort zone, which is simply painting murals in public spaces. But the experience itself has been enormously rewarding and artistic. I shared these days with cultured and sensitive people, and that is not something you come across often.
I left Bilbao with a renewed understanding of my relationship with the Basque Country and a desire for more encounters like this. I can only thank everyone who made this journey possible and dedicate all the works to Arantxa, who began her journey into infinity. I’m sure her essence was and will continue to be present in the lives of these wonderful people.

He estado nueve días pintando tres murales en el País Vasco. Empecé en Soho, una macro surf shop en Santurtzi, donde conocí a Joseba, propietario de la tienda, snowboarder y músico; una bella persona con la que compartí cinco días incesantes de pintura, charlas y música. Ha sido muy intenso y grato, me fui con la impresión de haber hecho un amigo.
En Soho pinté dos murales y después me fui a Bilbao para volver a pintar La Docena, de mis amigos Dani y Vanesa. La Docena es un estudio de diseño que pinté por primera vez en 2013. Para mi sorpresa, el mural seguía intacto, pero nos arriesgamos en renovarlo con un diseño de la serie “Brasil”. En La Docena conocí a Nico, hijo de ambos, pura luz y seguramente un futuro artista talentoso en lo que se proponga.
Fueron días fantásticos: muchas conversas interesantes, risas, pintura, música, y planes para el futuro. De todo esto saldrá un vídeo y una entrevista que me hizo Nico. Además, también conocí a Laura, Simón, Matilda, Efi, Maider y Janire, gente bonita que me brindó hospitalidad y cariño.
Este tipo de murales no son habituales en mi obra. Tengo que reconocer que me sentí un poco inseguro al principio al salir de mi zona de confort, que son los murales en el espacio público, sin más. Pero la experiencia en sí ha sido enormemente gratificante y artística. Compartí estos días con personas cultas y sensibles, y eso no abunda.
Me fui de Bilbao resignificando mi relación con el País Vasco y deseando nuevos encuentros de este tipo. Solo puedo agradecer a todos los que hicieron posible este viaje y dedicar todas las obras a Arantxa, que emprendió su viaje al infinito. Estoy seguro que su esencia estuvo y estará presente en la vida de estas bellas personas.
